McDonald, Herbert Burden

McDONALD, Herbert Burden (1880-1950), son of John McDonald, a master builder in northern New Brunswick, trained as a carpenter’s apprentice under his father and studied architectural drafting in Saint John in 1899 (Commercial World [Chatham], 25 April 1899). He was both architect, draftsman and accountant in his father’s firm of John McDoanld & Co., and is credited with the design of Nelson Public School, CHATHAM, N.B., 1901, and the Orange Hall, NEWCASTLE, N.B., 1903 (C.R., xiv, 1 April 1903, 2, t.c.). He later became owner of a hardware business and operated the Touraine Hotel in Chatham. McDonald died in Chatham, N.B. on 2 March 1950 (obit. Commercial World [Chatham], 2 March 1950, 1; inf.
