Melrose, Mr.

MELROSE, Mr. (fl. 1867) was noted as ‘the architect’ of St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, at the foot of Jeffrey’s Hill, near the City Line in SAINT JOHN, N.B. (Morning Telegraph [Saint John], 2 Oct. 1867, 2, descrip.). Designed in the early English Gothic style and costing nearly $20,000, this landmark was described as ‘one of the most elegant specimens of Church Architecture in the City’ and included a tower and spire rising over one hundred and twenty feet (The Presbyterian [Montreal], xxi, March 1868, 79, descrip.)
